Our 4-Step Land Clearing Process

Land clearing isn’t just about knocking trees down — it’s about doing it the right way from start to finish.

Walkthrough & Assessment

Every project starts with us walking the property with you. We look at the terrain, drainage, trees, and overgrowth to be removed, as well as anything you want left standing. This step is about more than just “looking at the land” — it’s about understanding your goals. Are you preparing for a home, opening up farmland, or developing a larger commercial site? We take all of that into account so the plan fits your specific needs.

1

Custom Clearing Plan

Once we know the layout and your vision, we create a plan for the clearing. This includes identifying what needs to go, what needs to stay, and how debris will be handled — whether it’s hauling, stacking, or a combination. We also factor in safety, efficiency, and protecting the areas that aren’t being touched. This step ensures there are no surprises once the machines start working.

2

Excavation & Clearing

This is where the real work happens. Trees, shrubs, and stumps are removed, and roots are excavated out of the ground — not cut off at grade and left to rot. That’s a major difference between a cheap clearing job and a professional one. Leaving roots behind can lead to sinkholes, uneven settling, and long-term headaches. We take the time to do it right by completely excavating roots and underground debris so the ground remains stable. All brush, logs, and debris are then either hauled off or stacked neatly depending on your preference.

3

Smoothing & Site Prep Finish

Once the clearing and excavation are complete, we smooth the property so it’s level, safe, and usable. This isn’t full grading (that’s a separate service), but it does mean ruts, holes, and uneven spots are addressed so you’re not left with a rough mess. The goal is simple: when we’re done, your land is cleared, stable, and ready for its next step in the journey — whatever that might be.

Land Clearing

At JG Grading & Landscaping, our Land Clearing service is the first critical step to transforming your property.

We clear land for homeowners, farmers, builders, and commercial developers who want it done the right way from the start. As a third-generation contractor, we’ve built our reputation on following the proper process — not shortcuts. That means excavating stumps and roots, removing debris, and grading the property so it’s stable, clean, and ready for its next stage. Whether it’s a residential lot, farmland, or a large-scale build, we bring the same experience, professionalism, and satisfaction guarantee to every project.

What is Land Clearing?

Land Clearing means removing trees, stumps, brush, and obstacles to create usable land. It’s the first step in preparing property for new construction, agriculture, pastures, driveways, or recreation. Done properly, it prevents future problems like settling, sinkholes, or erosion — and makes your property safe and ready to use.

Our Process

  • Initial Assessment: We start with a walkthrough of your property to understand the terrain, drainage, and areas to be cleared.

  • Custom Plan: We design a clearing plan that meets your needs while protecting the areas and trees you want to keep.

  • Professional Execution: We excavate stumps and roots, haul off or stack debris neatly, and leave your land graded and balanced so it’s ready for its next step.

Cheap Guy vs. JG Grading & Landscaping

What happens when you hire the cheap guy:

  • Cuts trees but leaves stumps, roots, and buried debris behind

  • Site looks fine at first, until rotting roots cause sinkholes or settling

  • Brush and logs left in piles for you to deal with

  • No grading or drainage → erosion and water issues later

  • You end up paying again to fix what wasn’t done right

What happens when you hire JG Grading & Landscaping:

  • Trees, stumps, and roots are excavated and removed, not just cut off at ground level

  • No buried debris → stable ground long-term

  • Debris is hauled off or neatly stacked — never left as a mess

  • Site is graded and balanced as part of the job

  • Done right the first time → saves time, money, and stress

  • Backed by our satisfaction guarantee and decades of experience

  • When we’re finished, your land is ready for its next step in its journey — whatever that might be

Why Choose Us?

  • Third-Generation Contractor: Carrying forward the Glover family legacy with site work done right.

  • Proven Experience: Decades of knowledge handling residential, farm, and commercial clearing projects.

  • Fully Insured: Your property and our crew are protected every step of the way.

Customer Benefits

  • Improved Property Value: A cleared, prepared site boosts resale and curb appeal.

  • Enhanced Usability: Open up land for building, farming, or recreation.

  • Long-Term Savings: Excavating stumps and roots prevents costly repairs later.

  • Safety & Health: Clearing reduces fire hazards and eliminates unsafe overgrowth.

Very knowledgeable and extremely helpful! Give them a call if you're in need.
by Tory H.
I have a small lot in the River Ridge campground that I recently purchased that needs some grading and landscaping work done to prepare for a garage. I called many local businesses that took my message and never called back, or the ones I talked to never showed up to give me an estimate on the work I needed done. When I came across JG Grading & Landscapings ad I read about the history and life story how they made their business so successful by honest hard work and satisfying customers needs. When I called, John answered and told me he was going to be in my area in a couple of days he'd be glad to come out and give me a estimate on the work I needed. When he arrived he was very professional and polite nice person to talk with. He looked my lot over and told me he couldn't give me estimate at this time because of not knowing the exact property lines, my fault for not having a survey done beforehand. He spend quite a bit of his time looking walking checking the grade difference explaining everything. I really appreciated him coming out and I hope he can come back soon now I've had property surveyed. I'll give part 2 of my review once work has been completed. Thank you John.

We recently had the pleasure of working with John from JG Grading and Landscaping, and we couldn’t be more satisfied with the service we received. From the very start, John took the time to meet us on-site and truly listen to our needs. He provided professional advice on what should and shouldn’t be done, without trying to upsell unnecessary services. What really stood out was how John offered us several options, including more budget-friendly alternatives. He walked us through the pros and cons of each option, giving us all the information we needed to make an informed decision. His honesty and transparency made us feel confident in our choices. John was also a pleasure to work with—very personable, approachable, and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure everything was perfect. We highly recommend his services to anyone in need of grading or landscaping work. We’re thrilled with the results and will definitely be calling him again for future projects!
